What is happy?

According to the dictionary – the meaning of happy is “a feeling or showing pleasure or contentment.”

We know what happy looks like; we know what it feels like.

We know how to make someone happy and we know how someone can make us happy, or do we?

Do you know what makes you happy?

Which movie or show have you watched recently or in the past and you can still remember how much it made you laugh?

You can still remember how much your cheeks hurt or your head from smiling so much.

What about that time someone told you a joke and the beverage you were sipping at the time came out of your nose?!

Remember that time?

Who was that person that did that to you?

What about that time you did something so silly and you laughed at yourself and thanked god that no one was there to see you?!

These memories stay with us. They have a special spot that we refer to when we realise we are not happy or life got a touch more tricky.

We need happy, we crave happy.

We know that life is better when we are happy… why do we hold on to petty crap that robs us of happy?

Why do we get all bitter and twister about things we can’t change?

Why can’t we all work on making each other happy?

Happy makes us radiate, like beams of sunshine bouncing off us.

Have you noticed how many people smile at you or how perfect some days can seem when you’re happy?  Life feels like it’s going according to plan… all the stars are aligned and things just make sense. Yet the days when we are not, the world seems so cruel and complicated.

What if all we had to do was be happy? What if all along we were in total control of the whole thing? What if we could be happy every day and the answer was so clear and simple.

So it got me thinking… What makes me happy? I mean, happy where my heart feels like its floating on a cloud…happy.

Trying to find things that made me happy also linked with things that I am grateful for. Being grateful makes us realise how lucky we are and feeling lucky/blessed makes us happy.

I came up with a list so long, from sipping a coffee with friends to something as simple as switching off the lights at night after a long day knowing me and my family are all safe and sound.

What makes you that happy? Pause for a moment and come up with at least 3 things.

I challenge you to find the things that make you happy and carry that list with you to refer to on days when you need  a quick reminder.
